A Quick Response (QR) Code is a type of matrix barcode that was designed in 1994 for the auto industry in Japan. These are great for web addresses, passing contact information, general marketing, and any other creative use you can come up with.
UPC-A
0-9 11 characters
The Universal Product Code is the most common form of barcode throughout North American markets. The idea was developed somewhere around 1932 but refined to what we commonly see today in 1973 by the grocery industry. This generator is eleven custom digits & one check digit.
Code39
0-9 A-Z and basic symbols 0 to 40 characters
One of the older types on this list, Code39 is used to encode numbers, letters and a few special characters. It is recommended Code 128 is used instead of 39 due to legacy reasons.
Code128
0-9 A-Z and basic symbols 0 to 50 characters
The newer and high density variant of Code39, Code128 is used for alphanumeric or numeric only barcodes. It is recommended to use this over Code39.
EAN-2
0-9 2 characters
EAN-2 is meant to be a supplement barcode to EAN-13 and UPC-A to indicate version or issue number.
EAN-5
0-9 5 characters
Similar to EAN-2, EAN-5 is meant to be a supplement to other codes (normally EAN-13) to indicate suggested retail price or other data.
EAN-8
0-9 7 characters
EAN-8 is the little brother of EAN-13, and is intended for use on small packages where an EAN-13 barcode would be too large. For example, chewing gum packaging. This generator is seven custom digits & one check digit.
EAN-13
0-9 12 characters
EAN-13 is a standard one-dimensional barcode standard which is widely used all over the world as product identifier at the point of sell. This generator is twelve custom digits & one check digit.
ITF-14
0-9 13 characters
Manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, trade and carriers in several industries use the ITF-14 barcode to label cases and logistic units. It is used in supply chains worldwide, facilitating transports both foreign and domestic. This generator is 13 custom digits & 1 check digit.
MSI
0-9 Up to 25 characters
Often known as the Modified Plessey, designed by the MSI Data Corporation to be used as a means of inventory control. I recommend only using 25 digits at the most, but do what you like!
Pharmacode
0-9 Any number from 3 to 131070
Also known as Pharmaceutical Binary Code, Pharmacode is a standard among the pharmaceutical industry that serves as a secure packing control system. The data is kept in binary rather than raw integer, with the minimum of 2 bars and the maximum of 16.
